1704 - Dangerous times, when the British colonies in the America's are threatened by Queen Anne's War. It is not the French but a pirate who captures Mercy Penhall, mute Puritan spinster. Fearing for her life and virtue yet drawn to the captain in spite of herself, Mercy unknowingly sets foot on a path of adventure and heartbreak that will test her courage to the limit. And in the end the secret she carries in her soul threatens to prevent even the small chance of happiness inherent in an impossible love.

Edmund Gramercy is an unwilling pirate, forced to join a hostile crew to save his life. He defies them to spare the captives and the women, but the silent Puritan tempts him like no other.

Thanks, Kimberly! Of course I, as the author, think it's good, but it's wonderful that other people do as well!

I posted the following *5 Star* review at Amazon.com, Good Reads, Library Thing, Barnes & Noble, and Borders:

I have just read "The Pirate and the Puritan", and I feel as though I was given a gift by the author, Mary Clayton. A sweeping, swashbuckling, enthralling romance! Thrilling battle scenes, rich historical detail, a reminder of the horrific Salem "witch hunts", and a sweetly sensual, deeply devoted romance. Second chances and a hard-fought-for hope of a happily ever after life! This is a "true" historical romance. Set sail with the Pirate Captain and his Puritan for one of the most romantic adventures of your life!

Condiff Family - I have seldom been so deeply complimented! I find there are very few books I can read more than once, and the fact you've read mine over and over simply astounds me!

Thank you. Did my heart good!

Laura - fairly sure I said 'thank you' on Goodreads. But if I didn't (and I'm becoming quite absent-minded in my old age) - thank you for your very nice comments!

And Virginia C - I'm sure I thanked you for your generous reviews in the Comment box at Amazon, but just in case I haven't - thank you too! That's a charming way of putting it - a 'gift' from the author.

Happy reading and happy Christmas!
